Animal Care Alliance's primary mission is to reduce the numbers of homeless and unwanted pets through affordable spay/neuter services. We also endeavor to make reasonably priced veterinary care available to anyone. Vaccinations, wellness care, care for sick or injured pets, various surgical procedures and parasiticides are all available at our clinic. Animal Care Alliance is also the only organization within a multi-county area that is licensed by the Indiana Department of Natural Resources and US Fish and Wildlife Service to rehabilitate and/or care for orphaned and injured mammals, songbirds and raptors. Approximately 400 squirrels, foxes, raccoons, hawks, owls, eagles and more are brought to us in need of help each year. The goal is to raise or nurse them back to health for release into a natural habitat. It is very rewarding when we're able to return animals back to the wild life that they were meant to live in. Still others are too injured or sick and don't survive. Some animals are able to survive but wouldn't thrive in the wild. If they're comfortable in captivity and have the right temperament, we add them to our DR and USFWS Education Permits. We love providing wildlife education programs for people of all ages, but most of our programs take place in local schools. When a child sees a native mammal or raptor from just a few feet away, their reaction is most often heart warming. It is exciting for them and it encourages learning about different wildlife species and conservation. Our vets and staff enjoy mentoring and education. Every semester, we host several students from local colleges who are interested in making veterinary medicine their life's work. Four of our interns have been accepted into veterinary schools in recent years.
In 2006, we recognized a need for a low-cost solution to the pet overpopulation in the area. After organizing a plan, a grant from the Wayne County Foundation (who is still a major supporter of us today) allowed our mission to begin.
Starting in a room located at HELP the Animals, surgeries began. From 2007 to 2011, our veterinarians performed over 12,000 spays and neuters (to date, we have spayed or neutered over 60,000 animals).
We outgrew our space at HELP, and in June 2011 the Animal Care Alliance Company was born. The new building let us perform more surgeries and start our walk-in clinic, moving from low-cost spay and neuters to low-cost pet healthcare.
In July 2018, we were excited to open the doors of our brand new clinic. Our new building offers a spacious waiting room, four exam rooms, a public restroom, and a larger parking lot. We are very thankful for all of the donations and support from the community.
